Game Design
Game design as a discipline has evolved dramatically since the introduction of Free-to-Play and "Games as a Service" offerings. This business-model shift has created more complicated design challenges, and required more specialists with focused skillsets. Mobile Game Doctor's consultants have deep expertise in features, systems, economy, narrative, world-building, and content design - each a critical sub-specialty of game design, and a must-haves for building and operating a successful free-to-play game service. Our design consultants are Lead and Director level, so they understand how these pieces interact and inter-relate, and can assemble, manage, and coach teams to get them working together to create a cohesive whole.
Marketing & UA
Marketing & UA are expensive, with high risk, potentially high reward, and a lot of uncertainty in between. Good marketing requires a mix of data analysis, specialized technical knowledge, and soft skills required to understand, advertise to, acquire, and retain the right audience. Mobile Game Doctor's Product Managers understand the role of community, data analysis, and A/B testing in understanding players' desires. They are able to turn that knowledge into a roadmap that balances immediate results against the crucial investment in long-term engagement that drives sustainable growth.
UX & UI
User Experience Design and User Interface Design sit at different points in the product development cycle but are both focused on keeping the product goals & customer’s needs front and center in the minds of the cross-functional product development team using lightweight methods of wire-framing, user flows, and key UI mockups, etc. Mobile Game Doctor offers UX/UI Designers well versed in both early stage exploration & product definition as well as reworking established features on mature live service products. Always approaching a given situation with the overarching user’s needs in mind, we can improve user satisfaction and engagement of your title over the short and long term.
Audits
Many clients engage with Mobile Game Doctor initially via audits in one or more of the areas listed above. These audits are short projects - usually 2 weeks - that help clients understand the state of their business, and the challenges or opportunities confronting them in written form with specific, actionable advice. These can focus on a specific question, or be much more broad - but always leave clients with concrete, actionable steps to address their issues and improve.

About Our Team
MGD was founded by Dave Rohrl, a 30 year veteran game designer, in 2014. Dave saw a need for a shared services model that offered senior free-to-play game design talent, steeped in both historical game design knowledge from PC and Console and cutting-edge free-to-play systems and live operations. By 2018, it became clear our clients desired services that extended beyond our core Game Design DNA into other areas of Free-to-Play service operation that relate to driving wholistic success. David Nixon, a multi-decade casual games and free-to-play games publishing leader, joined with a mandate to extend the business to provide similar quality and depth of service in the crucial domains of Product Management, Data Analysis, Marketing, and User Experience Design. Today MGD spans the globe with more that 50 consulting domain experts, and clients spanning everything from small indie developers to large AAA publishers.
